Warns management of any delays or bottlenecks...We have these T-Scan^® card racks installed throughout our warehouse and production areas. In the warehouse they're used to track inventory and to signal reorder points. Anytime that materials are assigned to a job, they're moved from the available inventory column to the used material column. This lets us know what we have on hand at all times as well as providing a visual cue to when we need to reorder materials. In our production areas the racks are used to schedule jobs. As material moves from stage to stage, a corresponding card moves on the rack to indicate its current location. This tells the workers the next job to be done and will warn management of any bottlenecks or delays in the process. Once cards start stacking up at a stage, we can rearrange the workforce to accomodate until things are back on track.

This has worked out so well for us.....This is the only system that our owner will use. He has it at every one of his dealerships. Each vehicle in inventory gets a card. We use different color card for different vehicles. For example a yellow card could be an Escalade and a blue might represent a CTS. This makes it simple and easy for the sales person to find the card for the vehicle that they need. If it wasn't easy, they wouldn't use it. All they need to see is the card color and the vehicle stock number that is printed on the top t-section. When they're working that particular vehicle, they remove the card to let the others know that it isn't available. You don't get to take the keys for a test drive until you've done this. The card gets put into the sales rack under their name and is held here until it sells or gets moved back into the available inventory. If the vehicle does sell, then it gets moved to the T-card rack located in our service department. Once the sale goes through, a bar code is created with all of the order details. This is printed out onto a sticker and stuck to the bottom section of the card. The service department then works from their rack to prepare the vehicle for the customer. They scan the barcode and it tells them what needs to be checked over before pick up and if there are any add-ons that need to be installed. This has worked out so well for us over the years that I couldn't imagine ever switching to anything else.
