How to Give a Video Presentation Using a Whiteboard

Did you know that whiteboards are outstanding for giving video presentations? When we think of video presentations, we typically think of the traditional, often-boring PowerPoint. We've all sat through plenty of these, whether it was in grade school, college, or in meetings at our jobs. Two of the main reasons that people utilize PowerPoint presentations so much is that they're simple to do and, more importantly, because they're very cost-efficient.

What if I told you that you could do a video presentation on a whiteboard that was also inexpensive? This is something that I've personally had great success with in the past, and now I want to share some tips with you. It's important to be creative, so here are some reasons why and how you can utilize whiteboards to make some really inexpensive yet awesome presentations.
  • Animation is fun: Hand-drawn videos, from a visual standpoint, are incredible and will always engage your audience. Again, with PowerPoint presentations, it's easy for your audience to lose interest in what you're presenting, so you want to keep their eyes on your work at all times. With hand-drawn videos on a whiteboard, there are five steps - idea development, scripting, storyboarding, editing, and posting online. Remember, it's best to keep your presentation between 30 seconds and four minutes. With videos on a whiteboard, they're not as complicated as they seem. After mapping out how the video will go, draw out each scene, then edit them later. This isn't terribly difficult to do, and it's more exciting and unique for your audience.
  • More interaction with your audience: As opposed to something like a PowerPoint presentation, a whiteboard allows you to be much more interactive with your audience, instead of just standing there and scrolling through slides. Now, you don't need to be the greatest artist when putting everything on the whiteboard, but one tip is to ask others in the office if the images all represent the same things to them - that way, you have a clear understanding if your message will really get across.
  • Use pictures more than words: While animation is fun and visually appealing, there are other ways to use whiteboards effectively for presentations, and one way is to just draw out what you're talking about. However, keep in mind that it's very important to use more pictures than words. Also, it's important to keep in mind that while you're drawing, continue speaking. If the presentation slows down at any point, that's when people lose interest in what you're talking about. Therefore, while doing this type of presentation, continue to lecture while you're drawing so that you keep your audience in tune with what's going on.

There are many different types of whiteboards that are great for presentations. Have you ever given a video presentation using a whiteboard? In what unique ways have you conducted a presentation before?
