Whiteboard Tips for Left-Handed Writers

There are many advantages to being left-handed. Not only is being left-handed an advantage when playing sports, but "lefties" often have better memories, are often times faster typists, can be better at video games, and are able to take on more at once. It's the little victories, right?

Did you know that left-handers only make up about 10% of the population? As someone who is left-handed myself, I've gone through the struggles that come along with it. Let's face it, most things are made to be most comfortable for those that are right-handed. With the majority of the population being right-handed, it makes sense, but how about some love for the left-handed crowd?

With many different types of useful whiteboards out there, especially in the business world, those of you that are left-handed will have to use them too. One problem that I've had in the past when writing is smudging, but that, as an example, is something that I've been able to correct in the past. I did this a few ways, which I would like to share with you.

With all of that said, here are a few helpful tips for the "lefties" out there when using a whiteboard.
  1. Always Have Proper Grip - Always be sure to grip the marker rather lightly, and have it in between the fore finger and thumb, all while resting on the middle finger. One way to practice this is by removing the pen and simply writing with the tip of the forefinger. By doing this, you will notice that the rest of your hand isn't moving all over the place, which is typically what causes smudges to happen.
  2. Having Correct Posture is Important - Good posture is a necessity in writing! Believe it or not, by not having good posture while writing (with your feet flat and shoulders being straight and very relaxed), it will affect your writing in a negative way. That's when things like smudging and mistakes happen!
  3. Consider Grabbing a Smudge Guard - Here's a solution - grab a SmudgeGuard. This type of tool is relatively cheap, and helps to avoid any smudges when you write. Not only that, but it helps your hand move at a smoother pace while writing. It might not be the most ideal thing to have to purchase it, but take it from me when I say that it's a huge help!
Sometimes, it can be tough being left-handed, especially when living in a right-handed world. That's just the way it is, but there are ways to combat it, as outlined above. Being left-handed is much more than it seems too. Believe it or not, those who are left-handed are better at multi-tasking than those who are right-handed. Not to brag, but I definitely fit that description.
Do you have any tips that you can share, whether it's as a left-handed person yourself, or knowing that someone close to you is? Let us know in the comments section below.
